Halloween Egg Hunt

Hey hawks, on Wednesday October 31st (Halloween), we will be having an egg hunt around the school. Hidden student around the school will have a designated number of eggs that they can give out, so watch out because they may run out. To get an egg, approach the student with the correct phrase from the clue-sheet behind the stage at lunch. These eggs can be exchanged for Moe-Money during open session (with the teachers permission) or at G3 directly after school. Beware though, there may be more than one person in the same costume!

Halloween Costume Contest

This Wednesday (October 31st) there will be a costume contest on the stage at lunch. There will be three categories: Spooky, Creative (Includes DIY), and group costumes. The winners chosen by our guest judges will take a picture together and it will be posted to Hillviewasb.com. Have fun! May the odds ever be in your favor.

Halloween Cupcake Contest

On Halloween (October 31st) we are having a cupcake contest! If you want to participate, bring your cupcakes in on Wednesday morning to the kitchen. Your cupcakes will be judged on three things: Relevance to theme (the theme is Halloween), creativity, and taste. The top three contestants will get a ribbon along with 10 spirit points for first place, 6 points for second place, and 3 points for third place. You must bring three cupcakes to enter. • Meal in a can (stew, soup, chili)
• Low-sodium canned vegetables
• Canned fruit in its own juice or water
• Olive or canola oil
• Spices (cinnamon, chili powder, cumin, salt-free spice blends)
• Canned foods with pop-top lids
• Low-sugar whole grain cereals
• Healthy snacks (granola bars, nuts, dried fruits)

Please avoid items packed in glass. No candy or sugar-sweetened drinks.

This list of foods are items needed for the Second Harvest Canned Food Drive happening here at Hillview from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1. Our goal this year is 3,500 cans total or more. You can see this list on the second harvest food bank website. So remember to share what you CAN hawks!

Our End of Year Goodbyes

Dear Hillview,

It's been a good year. We've been able to plan three dances, create a forum for political action in the wake of a mass shooting, host a community movie night, put on incredible spirit competitions, elect our successors, and make Hillview a better place. You are all a part of this, so your attendance at our dances, your voices at our Walkout, and your participation in our spirit competitions have been the times when you've been an active member of ASB this year. We're sad that we're going, but here's what we want to leave you with: your participation is what keeps Hillview such an awesome place, and it's what fuels all future innovation and fun. As a favor to next year's ASB, buy an ASB card. Learn our new fight song next year. Cheer at their first rally. New traditions and events take time, but having enthusiasm and participating to the fullest is what helps our new ASB, and by extension you, leave a legacy at Hillview for years to come. We can't thank you enough for sticking with us this year - but we'll certainly try. Thanks a million, and we'll miss you!

Wednesday is Sports Day, so wear your favorite team jersey!

Thursday is Purple Day for Relay for Life, so get your purple on!

Friday is Outer Space Day, so dress up as an alien, astronaut, or anything else!

Bear in mind: dress code still applies on each day. Your teachers can ask you to take off your hat as well.

Hillview Movie Night

A quick note: you can audition multiple acts as long as they are in different categories. Only one of them can make it into the show, but this makes it easier to cover all your bases.

Basketball Tournament

Dance Information!

Hey, hawks! Here's some info about the dance. This will also be available in the parent newsletter.

The Hillview City of Stars Dance is Friday, February 2nd from 6:00pm-8:00pm! Come celebrate a night in Hollywood on the red carpet at this can’t miss Hillview Middle School dance. All 7th and 8th grade Hillview students are welcome to attend where they can enjoy dancing, games, a photo booth, and delicious concessions courtesy of the music department. All proceeds from concessions will benefit the Hillview Music department Disneyland trip. Thanks for your support!

Where: Hillview Performing Arts Center

When: Feb 2nd, 6:00pm-8:00pm

What: Dance, Game room, Concessions!

Ticket Sales:

A discounted ticket pre-sale is going on all spirit week at lunch in the student store. $5 for ASB Card Holders and $7 for Non-ASB Card Holders. Tickets will also be on sale at the door at the regular price of $8 for all students. 

Chaperones will be fully aware of all the rules listed below and have the authority to enforce them.

Rules and Expectations at the Dance:

Cell Phone Use:  While cell phones are allowed at our dances, they are not permitted to be used on the dance floor inside the PA, outside in the concession area, or in the bathrooms.This means no texting, gaming, phone calls, or photography with your cell phones. Approved Yearbook photographers with badges will be using DSLRs to photograph the event. Cell phone use is allowed in the game room and the PAC Lobby only, but we ask that students keep their technology use to a minimum and use it primarily to communicate with parents before and after the dance. Thank you for helping us communicate this expectation to your children.

How to Dress? Students may dress casual or semi-formal. Most students dress comfortably. As this is a Hillview event, all handbook rules apply including the Dress for Success norms. As a reminder, this includes being covered from the top of your chest to mid-thigh with no undergarments showing. 

Bring Student ID: Only Hillview 7th and 8th graders may attend. Students from other schools are not allowed, nor is entering or exiting through any entrance other than the main entrance. To help us enforce this, all students are required to bring their Student ID/ASB Card to the dance. If you have lost your student ID/ASB Card, please see Mrs. Fichou in the student store or consider printing out a PowerSchool schedule to bring with you. 

No Food or Drink Inside: Food and drink will be sold outside in the concession/kitchen area, but no food or drink is allowed inside the PAC, PAC Lobby, or game room. All food and drink must stay outside.

Arriving late and leaving early? Students can arrive on their own as long as they show up by 6:30pm. After 6:30pm, students must have a parent accompany them to the main entrance - the PAC lobby. If a student wishes to leave prior to 8:00pm, a parent must meet them in the PAC Lobby to tag out with a chaperone. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please be prompt to get picked up at 8:00pm so that our chaperones can go home to their families. Thank you!
